Chiang Rai, Thailand is a quieter city, but it’s home to one of the most eccentric Buddhist temples in I’ve ever been to: Wat Rong Khun. Known by farang tourists as the White Temple, this complex was designed by Chalermchai Kositpipat, a former billboard painter who is interested intertwining Buddhist iconography with pop culture.
Wat Rong Khun, better known as “the White Temple” is one of the most recognizable temples in Thailand. The temple outside the town of Chiang Rai.
Wat Rong Khun, perhaps better known to foreigners as the White Temple, is a contemporary, unconventional, privately owned art exhibit in the style of a Buddhist temple in Chiang Rai Province, Thailand. It is owned by Chalermchai Kositpipat, who designed, constructed, and opened it to visitors in 1997.
